If you walk into this movie, expecting something short of a miracle, then you’d be happily surprised to find you found one. I know the big time movie critics panned the movie as garbage, but I personally think these missed the point. Like Tears of the Sun, Hotel Rwanda, and Blood Diamond, the movie makes a clear statement about how awful condition the current and past civil war Burma is in. I actually found this latest installment of the Rambo series to be quite honestly the best one. The action was non-stop, the brutal violence, and horrifying real life nightmare that the Burmese people have to endure every moment, made you want the villain’s head on a stick as soon as possible.
Sure the acting wasn’t anything to write home about, and the supporting characters weren’t very interesting, but the movie did something for me that many action movies haven’t in a long while. It made me raise my fist up and shout to the screen “GET HIM RAMBO!” . You knew Rambo wasn’t gonna just kick ass, he was going to tear into them with his hunting knife and shred anyone who gets in his way into pieces.
Rambo doesn’t get the girl in the end, there aren’t any moments of intense clarity for any of the supporting cast. The audience is quickly drawn into this movie as this small group of people not just running to stay alive , but in the process of running through the Burmese jungle they take it upon themselves without realizing to actually stand up and do something for their friends, the people caught in the middle of this war , and their own mortality. Sly Stallone may be an old geezer from Hollywood’s standards, but his physique can rival any action star 30 years younger than him. He single handily carried the entire film, and it that’s just fine because to be honest all you really wanted to see was Rambo.
This movie is filled with disturbingly realistic gruesome scenes of murder, rape, and torture. So there is no way you should bring the kids. Do you realize this man is practically a senior citizen, and he looks and moves this good? This alone should make you want to see this movie. For you older men out there you’ll want to run out and buy as much HGH you can afford. Don’t come to this movie with your critique cap on, looking for things to point out that sucks. This movie is frightening , loaded with action, lots of blood and gore , and has a very satisfying ending. Enjoy it for what it is , pure ass kicking entertainment.
