Ashton Kutcher Launches Gossip Blog

September 12, 2008

Not content to just make terrible films and older women, Ashton Kutcher is getting into the gossip market with a new blog called Blahgirls. The site offers a relatively light-hearted take on traditional celebrity gossip, lacking the nastiness of bloggers like Perez Hilton and the infuriating stalking of print outlets like US Weekly.

The blog is “written” by three animated teenage girls (that look like scraps from the South Park cutting room floor), who also star in short video posts in which they discuss celebrity news and gossip in a ridiculous caricature of what 13-year-old girls sound like.

What makes the site interesting, however, is that comments and e-mails from readers are replied to by the characters: Britney, Krystle, and Tiffany. Many of the responses come not from ghost writers or blog staff, but from an automated chat bot that generates replies and posts them without any input from a person. Believable artificial intelligence of this type is notoriously hard to implement, but as more and more custom responses are generated by the development team, the bot will become more… human, or at least that’s what Kutcher hopes, according to an interview he conducted with the New York Times earlier this week.

People want their celebrity gossip, we guess. We’re just glad you’ll never see these newest members of the paparazzi chasing Britney Spears to her car. [From: NY Times and Blahgirls]

Ladies, get ready for James

September 10, 2008

I know I am officially a card carrying member of the Daniel Craig as 007 fan club. No bond has ever been sexier, more intense, than this blond hottie Daniel Craig. On top of all that eye candy , and raw masculine man power, Craig is also the best actor out of all the James Bonds from yesteryear. He has it all..looks, brawn, and raw acting talent. I am so happy we finally get to see another side to Bond, and we couldn’t have asked for a better actor than Daniel..Below is the film synopsis and trailer.

My opinion: This looks like another classic in the making. Two great actors in their prime.

Johnny Depp riding the Batman gravy train?

September 10, 2008

“The Dark Knight” is still on the tip of everyone’s tongue. But now, instead of folks breathlessly asking each other if they’ve seen it, talk has turned to speculation over Batman’s next foe. Who’s it gonna be?

iVillage is reporting that the Caped Crusader may take on the Riddler in “Batman 3.” According to the rumor mill, Johnny Depp might sign on to play the nefarious super-criminal. But caveat emptor—this could be just as false as the one about Crispin Glover playing the Joker.

Slashfilm notes that there are additional possibilities floating around. For instance, Phillip Seymour Hoffman may play the Penguin or Angelina Jolie could don Catwoman’s skin-tight suit. Truth or fiction, fanboys around the world must be having a heart attack at the mere possibility.

Still, the “official” rumor mill is just one of the ways superfans are checking in on the next Batman flick. Many seek the scoop themselves. We’ve noticed impressive searches on “batman 3 rumors,” “dark knight sequel casting rumors,” and “batman’s next villain.”

That last query is very telling. People clearly want to know the answer, but we doubt even the filmmakers have decided. To that end, may we offer the studio execs this humble piece of Search-informed advice: Go with Catwoman. She’s far-and-away the most popular baddie and there are already a slew of searches on possible cast members including Jessica Biel, Amy Adams, and, wait for it, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Do fans think Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne’s one-and-only, was really the Catwoman all along?
